Interlibrary Loan (ILL): What is ILL?

Request items (not available at the SCC Library) through interlibrary loan.

What is ILL?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the process through which libraries and other loaning institutions loan materials to one another. There are two types of ILL transactions at SCC:

  1. ILL via CCLINC (Community College Libraries in North Carolina Consortium)
    • Patrons in good standing at SCC may use this service to obtain materials from any of the CCLINC libraries.
    • It is FREE to borrow items via CCLINC.
    • Materials usually arrive within one or two weeks.
  2. ILL via WorldCAT/OCLC (Online Computer Library Center)
    • Patrons in good standing at SCC may use this service to obtain materials from cooperating institutions and libraries around the United States.
    • Lending libraries that loan for free are contacted first. If this fails, a small fee could apply but you will be notified to gain your permission before the request is made.
    • Materials usually arrive within two or three weeks but there is no guarantee of arrival.
