Welcome to the ENG 112 Research Guide! Use this LibGuide to learn research basics and access discipline-specific library resources and information for your current and future research!

Course Description:

This course, the second in a series of two, introduces research techniques, documentation styles, and writing strategies. Emphasis is placed on analyzing information and ideas and incorporating research findings into documented writing and research projects.  Upon completion, students should be able to evaluate and synthesize information from primary and secondary sources using documentation appropriate to various disciplines.

 

Course Objectives

 

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the following outcomes:
 
● Produce unified, coherent, well-developed research writings using standard written English.
● Pose a question of appropriate scope for research and exploration.
● Generate a thesis and plan of organization for research writing.
● Locate sources using a variety of research strategies.
● Evaluate sources for credibility and relevance.
● Analyze and synthesize primary and secondary sources for inclusion in research writing.
● Demonstrate writing strategies that exhibit relevance, organization and conciseness.
● Effectively incorporate findings into research writing.
● Apply discipline appropriate documentation to avoid plagiarism.
